Gee-Gees win five in a row with 3-1 victory over Queen’s

The Gees head into the mid-season break on a five game winning streak and a record of 7-2.
Ottawa handed their rivals from Kingston a 3-1 defeat to maintain a two point lead over York
University for second place in the OUA East Division.

The Gees struggled to find their rhythm in the first set and Queen’s defense returned everything Ottawa threw at them. Despite Ottawa’s effort, Queen’s pulled away and won the first set 25-10, in dominating fashion.

Ottawa settled down after the first set and rallied back to trade points with Queen’s until the end of the set. The Gees put their foot down at 19-18 and pushed through to take the second set 25-21.

With a set under their belt the Gees began to find their pace and gained more confidence with every point. Ottawa took the third set 25-18 with some focussed blocking and finished the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set.

“This team has been working so hard all season long. I’m proud of everyone on this team. Today’s win was more than a 3-1 win. It represents all the work this team has put in over the past three months.” Head Coach Lionel Woods commented after the game. “This win allows us to head into the break with 2nd place to ourselves and some more confidence for the second half of the season... however, we know we still have a lot of work ahead us.”
