Gee-Gees
earn tough 3-1 win over MacMaster
Coming
off an emotional win on Wednesday versus Queens, a tired
Gees squad
managed to pull out a tough four set win over the McMaster Marauders
(25-19, 25-23, 19-25, 27-25). The win is the seventh in a row
for the Gees and puts them at 9-2 for the season and in sole possession
of 2nd place in the OUA East Division.
Ottawa
started the match with aggressive hitting, pushing the tempo of
the match. However, as the match wore on, McMaster threw themselves
behind everything the Gees put over the net.
In
the fourth set, McMaster jumped out to an early 10-5 lead. With
fifth year setter and co-captain Amanda Purdy, still nursing a
sore knee, third year wing hitter Alexandra Brown entered the
game to set for Ottawa. This was Browns first time
setting since club ball in high school. She led Ottawa back to
a 13-12 lead and
re-energized the Ottawa team. Purdy re-entered the match at 15-18
and with some gusty play, Ottawa finally managed to defeat McMaster
27-25.
It
wasnt pretty all teh time, but somehow we pulled it through
and well take the win any day. A relieved Coach Woods
said after the game. McMaster played an incredible defensive
match today and all the credit to them. They made us played the
entire match and our team had to find new ways of scoring. Coming
off the mid-season break and two tough matches this week, we are
feeling a bit tired but the way they kept fighting today... I
am proud of this team and their continued focus on every match.
