Gee-Gees
extend win streak to eight and take over first place
with win over Guelph
The
Gees won their third match this week and eighth in a row with
a 3-0 victory over the Guelph Gryphons (25-17, 25-18, 25-19).
Ottawa, playing their third match in four nights, found the energy
to control the tempo of the match and used a balanced attack to
gain the win. The win puts the Gees at 10-2 and in a first place
in the OUA East Division.
Ottawa
used ball control and solid defense to push to early leads in
each set. The
valuable pre-season experience the Gees gained then allowed them
to finish each set. The match also gave the Gees the opportunity
to use different line-ups in order to give some of the younger
players valuable game experience against a tough opponent.
That
was a great performance for this team, especially given the time
of year. This three match stretch was a great test for us and
the players banded together to find a way to earn three good wins.
The teams we played this week are all contending for playoff spots
and a conference title, so to come away with the results we got,
it gives us a good idea where we stand in our league. We get a
few days to recover and then get ready for two more road match
next weekend.
The
Gees head to Lakehead University in Thunder Bay next weekend for
two matches, and then return the following weekend for their 20th
Annual University of Ottawa Quality Hotel Invitational Tournament.
