Gee-Gees
Moves to 5-2 and Second Place with 3-1 Win Over Waterloo
The
Gees pushed through some early sluggishness to earn their first
home win of the season with a
3-1 win over the Waterloo Warriors. Ottawa used their whole line-up
in this contest and saw the emergance of some new young stars
and the steadiness of its veteran leadership.
Head
coach Lionel Woods commented after the game. This was
an important game for us and we were able to use our whole squad.
The third set was disappointing, but our vets came out hard in
that fourth set and finished the match with some fire. I am very
proud of our team right now, today wasnt pretty but they
stayed with our game plan and we are finishing today with another
win and two more points. Now we get refocused for tomorrow.
The
Gees battled back and forth with the Warriors throughout the first
set but Ottawa seized the momentum at the end of the first set
with 5th year veteran Kara Zakrzewska entering the match to serve
6 straight times to win the set 25-20.
Ottawa
kept up the pressure and easily won the 2nd set 25-18. However,
the third set was another struggle with the Gees falling short
in the end losing 26-28. The loss seem to fire up the Gees and
they came out rolling in the fourth set and bull-dozed their way
to a 20 minute 25-13 win.
The
win puts the Gees at 5-2 for the season and in sole possession
of 2nd place in the East division. Their next match is Sunday,
November 24 at 2:00pm vs. Laurier.
