Gee-Gees Stall Coming Out Of The Gate Against York

The Gees, coming off a promising pre-season, stumbled in their season opener vs York University. York controlled the tempo in the first set from the start with strong serving and controlled hitting. Ottawa fought back to make the game interesting bringing the score to 22-24, but fell short losing 22-25.

The second set went along the same path with the Gees coming up on the short end, losing 20-25. The third set was a see-saw battle with each team fighting to take control. In the end, York again prevailed with their ball control, sending the Gees home with a 23-25, 0-3 loss.

"I’m speechless. After our pre-season, this match was a real dissapointment for all of us.” Head coach Lionel Woods commented after the game, "I have to chalk this up as our "mulligan" of the year (and it was a big slice). We have to re-group and find a way to get through this. We got two road matches next week, so we have some work to do."

Next up for the Gees is a weekend swing through St. Catherines,
vs Brock University and Toronto vs Ryerson University.
