Gee-Gees Volleyball:
Gees Get Second Win Of The Weekend & A Share of 2nd Place
In OUA East
It
took all five sets, but Ottawa bounced back from their first home
loss yesterday to defeat the University of Windsor Lancers 3-2
in a two hour match. The win puts the Gees within two points of
second place in the OUA East Division. Ottawa will get the chance
to pull even with Queen’s as they travel to Kingston on
Wednesday night for their next league match.
In
today’s match, Ottawa came out strong in the first set and
used an early lead and solid defence to win the first set 25-19.
In the second set, Windsor kept on fighting and recovered from
an early deficit to come back and take the set 25-21. The Lancers
used that win to capture the third set as well 25-22.
Despite
being down 2-1, Ottawa kept their composure and forced a fifth
set with a 25-21 win in the forth set.
Ottawa
and Windsor continued to battle in the fifth set with both teams
struggling to pull ahead. In the end, the Gees finally managed
to gain the two point spread to win the set and match through
the key hitting of left-side hitter Christine Lamey and tactical
second ball attacking of 4th year setter, Ellen Barwise.
