IN THE LOOP UPDATE - GEE-GEES WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Ottawa
Cracks National Top Ten Poll For The First Time This Season
(Click here to go to National Rankings)
On the strength of a hard fought 3-1 win over #8 ranked University
of Toronto this past weekend at Montpetit Hall - in front of a
sold out crowd - the Gee-Gees Women's Volleyball Team have cracked
the National Top Ten rankings for the first time this year.
The
2004-05 edition of our team has played 21 matches already this
season, including competition in 3 of the 4 conferences in the
country. We have matched up against perennial favorites such as
Sherbrooke (2003 National Champions), Manitoba & Winnipeg,
as well as the best from the Atlantic Conference. This variety
of play and strong results against some of the best that this
country has to
offer has really set this team up well to be ready to take another
run at the Ontario title this season.
After
a tough loss in the second game of the season to (#8 ranked) Laurier
Golden Hawks - the Gees have run off 4 straight wins en route
to this newly posted #9 ranking in Canada !
Now
comes the next test - there are still four tough matches against
divisional rivals during the final two weeks of league play before
the X-mas break. And it all starts this weekend with a critical
double header at Ryerson and then York University (still undefeated
in OUA play).
Congratulation
must go out to team veterans #12 Ellen Barwise, #8 Nancy Coelho
and #11 Manon Ouellette who have each received player of the game
honours during the three home games this season.
