Sold Out Crowd Pushes Ottawa to a 3-1 Win Over
Toronto
Ottawa
returned home after two weekends away to a sold out crowd and
a shoot out with the OUA East Division leading Toronto Varsity
Blues.
The
Gees came out flying, taking the first two sets by identical scores
of 25-19. However, Toronto didn’t back down and rallied
back in a nail biting third set taking it 29-27 and forcing a
fourth set.
In
the fourth set, Toronto rolled out to a 8-0 lead with tough short
serving. A resolved Ottawa team was not going to let the capacity
crowd go home disappointed and dug in to find a way to claw back
into the set, finally tying the set at 21-21. The Gees then pushed
the match to its conclusion with a stuff block, an ace and two
big hits, winning the last set 25-23.
Fourth
year libero, Manon Ouellette led the charge back for Ottawa. Her
passing and digging kept the Gee-Gees offence clicking and allowed
fifth year setter, Ellen Barwise to control the game at the net.
Ottawa
travels to Toronto next weekend for two matches Saturday and Sunday
against East Division rivals, Ryerson University and York University.
