Ottawa
Back On Track With Big Win vs #1 Ranked York Lions
After
losing for the first time at home last weekend (vs Ryerson), the
Gees came out determined to reclaim their home court. York came
into the weekend undefeated in the OUA, ranked 8th in the CIS
and first place in the East Division. The big upset win has put
Ottawa within two points of second place Toronto, with a game
in hand. In teh event of a tie for second, Ottawa would come out
on top by virtue of their win earlier this season over Toronto
in league play.
The
Gees were led by 4th year left-side hitter and player of the game
Ashley Keenan. Keenan led the match with 15 kills and added in
8 digs on defense.
“Our
veterans stepped up this week after last weekend’s loss
and it was visible that they were demanding the team make an active
change in our approach in our league matches. The coaching staff
provided them with a framework but they are the ones that decided
to fill in the details of how it would be executed.”
Head coach Lionel Woods said after the match.
Ottawa
now heads on the road for two league matches against West Division
rivals, Guelph and McMaster. Their next home match is February
5, (2:00 pm) against Windsor University (#3 in OUA west) and then
February 6, (2:00 pm) against the University of Western Ontario
(#1 in OUA West).
