OFF TO THE OUA FINAL FOUR
So
the regular season is over (15-4), the first round of the playoffs
has finished off (win vs York) and now what sits in front of the
Gee-Gees Volleyball Team is the OUA Final Four Tournament and
a chance for one team to head to Calgary (March 1 – 4) for
the National Championship Tournament to represent the OUA.
What
needs to be said at this point, however, is THANKS! The players
and staff of this year’s team want to thank all of our supporters.
The stands have been full all year, especially the last two weeks
with two “sell out” crowds. The atmosphere at our
games is second to none and it is a big reason why we have played
so strong at home this year (12-0). We can’t thank you enough
for your support. On top of that, the number of e-mails congratulating
the team and wishing them well has been overwhelming – we
have put all of the messages up in the team room over the last
few weeks and it has meant a lot to the players. We are fortunate
to play in a community that is so willing to come out and support
this team as they represent the university but also the city with
their best effort every night.
To
our alumni, another special note of thanks. Your e-mails, phone
calls and messages to the team have been a great sense of pride
and history to our players. Gee-Gees Volleyball has been to the
playoffs 28 years of its 29-year history, and this team is trying
to do its best to live up to the high standard set by players
of the past. Our goal is to get another OUA banner up in the rafters
to continue the tradition of success here at the University of
Ottawa.
Regardless
of this weekend’s outcome we wanted everyone to know that
you have been a big part of our success this year and we are carrying
your support with us to Toronto as we take a shot at this thing.
Please visit the U of T web site (www.varsityblues.ca) or the
OUA web site (http://oua.ca/sports/wvolleyball/) for all the results
this weekend and keep good Gee-Gees thoughts on Friday and Saturday
night.
