Gee-Gees Standout Left Side Player, Named 2nd Team All Canadian
The
2005-06 CIS Women’s Volleyball season comes to an end the
weekend, with the playing of the National Championship tournament
in Calgary. In association with the championship banquet, the
All Canadian awards were handed out; and this year, Gee-Gees standout
left side player, Christine Lamey has been named a Second Team
All Canadian, recognizing her as one of the top twelve players
in the country for the 2005-06 season.
Lamey
entered her 3rd year of play with the Gees looking to step to
the next level of performance. After an invitation to the Canadian
National Team try out camp in May of 2005, Lamey certainly had
a chance to see what the next level of her game could be. Christine
tore through the OUA league this year with an atmosphere of determination
and fire that few could match. As the season drew to a close this
4-time OUA Player of the Game was named as an OUA East First Team
All Star and a top candidate for All Canadian honors.
A
look at Lamey’s 05-06 statistics will tell you why the country
took notice this season:
• Ranked #1 in Ontario and #3 in Canada in points / game
(4.32)
• Ranked #1 in Ontario and #6 in Canada in total points
(272)
• Ranked #2 in Ontario and #4 in Canada in kills/game (3.68)
• Ranked #3 in Ontario and #9 in Canada in total kills (232)
• Ranked #8 in Ontario in aces per game (.35)
The
exciting news for Gee-Gees Volleyball is that Christine still
has two years of eligibility left in her career, and along with
13 potential returning players from this year’s OUA Final
Four team, the Gees will clearly be one of the favorites again
next year to put together a run at the OUA Championship.
