Gee-Gees
Volleyball Goes Down To The Wire With Toronto... in the first
of the two regular season
meetings between these top Ontario teams. (1st and 2nd place in
the OUA East)
This past Saturday
(Nov. 26th) a relatively young Gee-Gees squad went into Toronto
with a 6-1 record all set for what was billed as a bit of a 1st
place showdown between the Varsity Blues & the
Gee-Gees.
The bad news is,
the Gees came away with a 6-2 record; The good news is, a 16-14
loss in the
5th set (after 2 hours & 16 minutes) might as well have been
a tie in some respects.
This was one of those
matches where it was a shame that someone had to lose. What a
match it was! Back and fourth volleyball for over 2 hours with
great physical play and tons of exciting defence.
Mark February 11th,
2006 on your calendar as that is the date that Toronto will head
to Ottawa for the last regular season game of the year and what
could be a "winner take all" first place game again.
There is no question that these two teams are legitimate Top 15
teams in Canada and two of the favorites to challenge for this
year's Ontario championship berth to the National Championship
Tournament in Calgary (set for March 2-4, 2006)...... and the
rivalry continues.
