(June 16, 2008)

The term off-season has not slowed down members of this year's Gee-Gees women's volleyball team. Three players from the 2007-2008 Gee-Gees roster, have made their mark on the Provincial, National and International scenes.

5th year graduating player, Christine Lamey, is taking her volleyball career to the next level after signing a contract with a Division I professional volleyball team in Portugal. Lamey, who finished her career at uOttawa as a 1st team CIS All-Canadian and OUA Player of the Year, will begin her pro career in Portugal this September, where she will be playing for at least one year before deciding on her long term aspirations. As well as signing her first professional contract, Lamey is heading to Spain the week of June 23 to participate in an FiVB international beach volleyball event with partner Heather Bansley (University of Toronto).

As well, two returning first year players: Stephanie McGuinty and Claudia Séguin will be making their mark on the national and provincial scenes, this summer.

Stephanie McGuinty, a right side player with the Gees, has been invited to the 2008 Junior National team try-out/training camp on June 28th-30th. This invite has been reserved for the top 30 age-eligible athletes in Canada. As a follow up to this camp, McGuinty will then attend the Ontario Provincial team try out in Toronto from July 2nd to 6th. The final 30 players at this try out camp will make up the pool of athletes in consideration for the 2009 Team Ontario that will compete at the 2009 Canada Summer Games.

Claudia Séguin, next year's starting libero for the Gees, is also making strides this summer participating as an Ontario Provincial Beach team member. Séguin will compete all summer on the Ontario beach circuit and will represent Ontario at the National Championship, set for August 29th -31st in Toronto. Séguin is now a front runner to be named to the 2009 Ontario Team which will represent Onatrio at the 2009 Canada Summer Games.
