Gee-Gees start second half with Top 10 ranking

In one of the largest jumps in CIS rankings this season, Gee-Gees Volleyball went from being unranked a week ago (out of the Top 15) to grab the # 9 spot on this week’s Canadian Top 10 Coaches Poll. (http://www.universitysport.ca/e/w_volleyball/index.cfm)

What is most exciting about the current state of affairs is that it seems #5 through #10 in Canada, is a bit of a toss up on any given day. 7th ranked Sherbrooke fell victim to the Gee-Gees in the semi final match at the Quality Hotel Tournament this past weekend and #8 ranked Laval played to a very tight 4 set victory with the Gees in late September.

If this past weekend is any indication of the rhythm, fire and focus that the Gees are able to bring to the second half of the season then it will certainly be an exciting run at a second straight OUA championship and a birth at the 2008 National Championship at UNB – February 29th to March 1st – (http://www.cisport.ca/e/championships/w_volleyball/2008/). The OUA title will be no “gimmie” this season as at least 6 teams have served notice that they can put a championship performance on the floor – we hope you joins us for the exciting volleyball to come.

What the Gees also accomplished this past weekend was a clear victory over one of the top Atlantic conference teams (UNB) and a head to head victory against the potential #1 or #2 seed coming from the Quebec conference – all that to say that the Gees did everything in their control to give them the best seeding possible at the CIS championship if they are able to keep up the winning ways and capture this years OUA title.
