University
of Ottawa Women’s Volleyball Team announces
official roster for 2007-08 campaign
(September 14, 2007)
“This
year’s roster of core veterans, with 5 returning starters,
and an impressive line up of added recruits has everyone around
our program very excited about our opportunity to build on last
year’s OUA Championship and 6th place finish in Canada.”
said Coach Woods on the release of the official roster.
Woods
also added, “there is no question that it’s a
tough thing to win back to back championships in our sport but
this group of athletes are already showing the same hunger and
fire that got them to the National Elite 8 level last year. I
am extremely impressed with our veteran’s commitment to
off season training and preparation. Coaches only hope for the
leadership and high standard of dedication that seems to be automatic
for this group of veteran players.”
This
year’s roster is highlighted by the return of OUA All stars
Christine Lamey, Laura Simons & Kirsten Brouse,
but the depth of talent is the real story. Quebec natives and
top recruits from 2005-06, Karine Gagnon, Ariane Thibault
and Joanie Beauregard-Veillette will all figure prominently
in the success of this year’s team, and the recruiting class
for this season might well be the envy of the conference with:
Tess Edwards
- Ottawa native – National Capitals VC
- Transfer from University of Kentucky
- 2004-05 Ontario club player of the year
- Current Senior National Team prospect
Stephanie McGuinty
- Ottawa native – National Capitals VC (5th in Canada)
- Junior national team prospect
- Past Ontario Regional & Provincial team member
Claudia
Seguin
- Ottawa native – National Capitals VC (5th in Canada)
Jessica
Hanna
- Midhurst native – Barrie Elites VC
- Past Ontario Regional team member
Joanna Fabris
- Sudbury native – Les Diables
- Past regional team member
Other
key notes on roster:
• Christine Lamey with playing partner,
Amanda Digel tore up the u24 beach circuit this summer by claiming
the All Ontario Championship and a bronze medal a the National
Beach Championship in late August (a “first-ever”
by Ottawa natives)
•
From the returning group of players, Brouse, Thibault
and Beauregard-Veillette were all invited and attended
the u21 National Team camp in May of this year (Roughly 40 athletes
from around the country attended)
•
Kaely Whillans, Mackenzie Dysart and Veronique Yeon
complete this year’s line up but it must be recognized that
all three of these players factored greatly in the championship
run of last year’s team with Whillans & Yeon contributing
in starting line up and Dysart adding her dominant serve to the
attack as a first year player last year
