Gee-Gees Volleyball Opening Weekend Summary

The Gees opened the 2007-08 OUA season at Montpetit Hall against the University of Toronto

GAME STORY:
The uOttawa Gee-Gees bent but didn’t break Friday in posting a five-game marathon win against chief rival Toronto to begin the 2007-08 OUA women’s volleyball season. uOttawa prevailed 29-27, 19-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-13 to go to 1-0 as the defending conference champion. Christine Lamey paced the Gee-Gees with 18 kills and 43 digs. “Tested our grit, tested our gut early,” said uOttawa coach Lionel Woods. “We won the match but they were plus-6 in points. “I think we can play better.” Heather Bansley had 14 kills and 21 digs for the Varsity Blues (0-1).

Hosted York University Saturday at 2:00 pm

GAME STORY:
Christine Lamey’s team-high 22 kills were not enough Saturday as the uOttawa Gee-Gees suffered a five-game match setback to visiting York. Lamey also contributed 19 digs for the 1-1 Gee-Gees, which had York down 2-1 but dropped a 25-20 fourth game decision before falling in the fifth 15-7.
Sarah Sutton paced York with 13 kills and 3 digs.
