McGuinty
named to the 2008 Ontario Provincial Team
(July 10, 2008)
Stephanie
McGuinty, a stand out 6"0", right side player for
the Gees has been named to the 2008 Indoor Ontario Provincial
Team. McGunity flew in to Toronto on July 2nd, for the team selection
camp, directly from Winnipeg where she was attending the Junior
National Team tryout just one week prior. While Stephanie remains
part of the national pool of athletes for future consideration
she will be one of the veteran leaders with this summer's Ontario
Provincial Team. This selection marks Stephanie's third opportunity
to represent Ontario.
The
2008 Ontario squad is made up of athletes who will be part of
the final selection for the 2009 Canada Games Team, but in the
meantime the team will train for the month of July at the University
Toronto campus en route to the National Team Challenge Cup (NTCC)
to be held in Calgary from July 24-27th. This national tournament
showcases the best that each province has to offer and will provide
a preview of next year's Canada Games competition set for PEI
(August 15-29, 2009).
After
an intense month of training and competition, Stephanie will return
to Ottawa for some "down time" and preparation for her
second season with the Gees and another run at the Ontario Conference
Championship. McGunity was recruited to uOttawa from the Ottawa
Capitals Volleyball Club and during Stephanie's rookie campaign
with the Gees she was 3rd on the team in aces per set and showed
great promise to be the next dominant force in right side as a
blocker and left handed attacker. For more details and information
