Financial Aid & Athlete Bursaries

A priority focus for the Gee-Gees Volleyball program over the past few years has been long term planning for the generation of funds to support an expanding financial aid and bursary program.

There are a number of support programs, scholarships and bursaries to help student athletes at the University of Ottawa. Athletes associated with Gee-Gees Volleyball have access to a list of different funding resources. For specific information that is tailored to your indiviual situation please contact the head coach directly to be sure not to miss out on valuable financial assistance information.

Financial aid & bursaries include, but are not limited to:

1. Renewable Academic Admissions Scholarships

4. Sports Services / University of Ottawa - Student Work Study Program
This program gives students access to jobs in a variety of aspects related to sport. Students in the program are eligible for up to $1 500 per semester in salary for part time work and up to $5 000 in the summer program - last year Gee-Gees Volleyball players earned a total of $72 000 from this program alone.

5. University of Ottawa Student - Athlete Financial Aid Program
This program has set the Gee-Gees apart from many institutions. Entering & Continuing student - athletes obtaining the required grade point average (80 % for enetering & 70% for contiuing students) are eligible for our Athletic based, annual fund (scholarships) that has been “ear marked” by the University of Ottawa.

Annually, $50 000 is "ear marked" and avaiable to volleyball players who meet the minimum standards. In accordance with CIS & OUA regulations, a maximum of 14 student-athletes per year from the team can be awarded up to $3 500 in financial aid from this specific fund. Any fnding received from this fund does not prohibit an athlete from receiving academically based scholarships as well.

6. University of Ottawa / Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Funds
This program involves a growing list of over 150 endowed funds. Each fund has specific eligibility requirements, ranging from minimum academic standards to membership on a particular sports team, to enrollment in a particular faculty. These awards offer eligible students the chance at awards ranging from $500 - $10 000
