| When
the coaching staff of the Gee-Gees women's volleyball team sits
down to decide who to recruit, who to pick and who to identify
for the future there is a common understanding of the kind of
person and athlete that we have built this program around. To
help young players who may be considering the University of
Ottawa, we have defined some of the attributes, characteristics
and traits that are most commonly found in the players that
we are looking to add to our family. Many
sports teams and media people talk about these general components
but what we have done here is to define what they mean to
us; and in doing so are trying to help you understand some
of the priorities and goals of our team.
It
should also be pointed out that the Gee-Gees do indeed place
a premium on the first area that is defined. We use the "character"
component of evaluation as at least 50% of our total decision.
Often times we can teach and train many of the required athletic
and volleyball skills; however, a certain amount of existing
character is the basis of the strength andconsistency of our
team over the years.
When
our coaching staff discusses player potential and athlete
value these are the definitions we use.
